James is a 1989 graduate of Mansfield HS where he participated in Cross Country from 1985-1988 and Track and Field from 1986-1989. James graduated from Bucknell University and was a member of the Cross Country and indoor-outdoor track and field teams. Since graduation he has spent the last 22 years coaching at the High School and collegiate levels. In cross country at Mansfield, he was a 4-year varsity member and finished in the top 5 in every race, was the #1 runner and MVP 3 times, and was a 3-time medalist at the McQuaid Invite. He was a 2-time state championship qualifier and set 5 course records. As a member of the Mansfield track team he was a 4-time leading scorer and letter winner (where he scored in every meet but two), a 2-year captain and team MVP, and qualified 4 years for districts. At Bucknell University in Cross Country, he was a 4-year varsity letter winner on a Division 1 program. He was All-Patroit League as a senior and top 5 team runner on the Coaches Association Race team championship at IC4A Championships. On the Bucknell track team, he was a 4-year letter winner on a team that won 4 indoor and 2 outdoor conference championships. He scored in every conference championship, both indoor and outdoor, except one when he was out with an injury.
