Steve graduated from Mansfield HS class of 1966. Steve was an outstanding athlete and lettered in 5 Varsity sports: basketball, baseball, soccer, track, and cross country. As a sophomore he started on the basketball team and averaged double figures. He earned a soccer scholarship to Brown University, but turned it down to go to West Virginia to play basketball. He then went to Florida and joined the Air Force. While in the Air Force he was a member of the All-Far East Basketball Team, and coached college soccer in Kerrville, Texas.
